An Exhibition of Work by Maria Pavledis of smoked drawings and new prints May 25 – June 10th 2019 11am – 5pm daily at St Nicholas Church in Salthouse.
An exhibition of monoprints, etchings and smoked drawings. New work in progress inspired by the lives of inmates of Victorian Workhouses. Maria will be working in the church throughout the exhibition, telling the stories of the ‘Jacket Women’ unmarried mothers who had to wear an identifying jacket to denote their status, and the ‘Casuals’ ( Casual poor including the homeless, and tramps) There will also be several unique drawings created using candle smoke.
Maria Pavledis studied Painting at Norwich School of Art (NUA) and Printmaking MA at Camberwell College of Art. She works in Norfolk and has exhibited widely, most recently with Norfolk by Design, the Holt Art Prize, Norwich Print Fair and solo shows at The Old Shoe Factory Social Club. She teaches etching at Print to the People and curated ‘Once Bitten’ showcasing new etching at Nunn’s Yard in Norwich in summer 2018 .
