• Deliver an annual multidisciplinary arts festival in the autumn (usually in the October half-term week) at multiple venues in the environs of Cromer and Sheringham.
  • Organise arts projects, events and exhibitions throughout the year in North Norfolk.
  • Organise an annual open visual arts competition and exhibition in North Norfolk.
  • Co-promote with partners, and support the delivery of collaborative, arts projects, events and exhibitions throughout the year in North Norfolk.
  • Provide an arts events diary for people looking for opportunities in the North Norfolk area.
  • We are in the process of developing ideas to provide an information source and networking for North Norfolk artists and groups.

We use a variety of means to deliver our artistic programme:

  • We work with local and national artists creating innovative and contemporary art to exhibit / perform during festival week and at other times in North Norfolk.
  • We invite proposals for arts events, projects and exhibitions from artists and groups via an online submission process. These are reviewed by the trustees at their monthly meetings.
  • For the competition, we invite artists (no geographic restrictions) – amateur, emerging and professional – working in any visual medium – painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, textiles, collage or print – to create a maximum of two works – 2d or 3d – for inclusion in a themed exhibition during festival week. We invite at least one independent artist to judge the entries and award a prize to the winner; and we organise a People’s Vote during the exhibition – inviting members of the public to vote for their favourite piece of work – and award a prize at the end of the exhibition to the winner.

In terms of partnerships:

  • We support the delivery of Summer Theatre in North Lodge Park by:
  • Making a small financial contribution annually (as resources allow) to the Friends of North Lodge Park, Cromer.
  • Promoting the programme in our newsletters and on our website.
  • We support the delivery of a year-round film programme at The Atrium in North Walsham by:
  • Providing governance and financial management, banking, accountancy and film licensing accounts for the volunteers of the Atrium Cinema Group.
  • Promoting the film programme in our newsletters and on our website.
  • We invite artists and groups to add event listings for inclusion on our website – in an arts events diary – via an online submission process. We offer the option of selling tickets for events via our online box office facilities through PayPal, Stripe and Ticketsource; and we select events from the online arts events diary for inclusion in our e-newsletters.

For people looking for opportunities in the North Norfolk area we:

Our ideas for providing an information source and networking for North Norfolk artists and groups are under development – watch this space!

We do all of these things to ensure fulfilment of our charity objects, which are:

  • To promote art for the benefit of the public by the establishment and maintenance of a diverse artistic and cultural programme.
  • To advance the education of the public in the subject of the arts – visual, literary and performing.

We aspire to:

  • Assist the arts in North Norfolk to grow and develop by fostering new, young and emerging talent, encouraging creativity, helping to develop skills and raise aspirations, creating opportunities for local artists to exhibit/ perform their work and supporting new initiatives in the arts.
  • Involve more people in the arts by providing affordable and accessible opportunities for engagement and volunteering, supporting and promoting cultural diversity and equality of opportunity, and developing new audiences.
  • Act as a leader and advocate for the arts in North Norfolk by helping the arts community to succeed, bringing artists, groups and business together, and encouraging partnerships, collaborations and the sharing of resources, experiences and ideas.
  • Pursue artistic excellence by providing high quality and innovative arts opportunities that people in North Norfolk can enjoy.
  • Ensure that artistic communities are recognised and valued for the vital role they play in enhancing the health, wellbeing and quality of life in North Norfolk.
  • Address the social and economic needs of the rural communities in North Norfolk by listening to feedback from our users and partners and by providing local, inclusive, year-round opportunities, particularly during the less popular out-of-season months when there are fewer opportunities available.
  • Help to sustain the local arts economy all year round by using local services wherever it is viable to do so and contributing to the positive image of North Norfolk by bringing high calibre artists to the area to enhance and encourage return visits.

We define the arts as including all forms of the performing arts, music making, visual arts, literature, creative technology, film, heritage and architecture.

“Whether it is in bringing communities together, promoting individual wellbeing, or helping towns to adapt to changing economic circumstances, the arts have an ever-increasing role to play in helping us all to live well. By supporting our cultural sector, we create happier, more vibrant communities that we can all be proud to be a part of.” (Arts Council England)
